Surround yourself with greats at a dribbble meetup

“Surround yourself with great people who share your vision and you won’t go far wrong”

– Sir Richard Branson

If you ever want to improve your business or update your skills, it always helps to surround yourself with people who have better skills or knowledge than you do. They can be such a positive influence, inspiration and above all teach you some amazing things that will help your growth. I find that a great place to experience this, as a creative, is by attending Dribbble meetups in my city.

Firstly, what is dribbble?

“Dribbble is a place to show and tell, promote, discover, and explore design.”

How the meetup works?

Every couple of months, members of the “dribbble community” –  creatives and illustrators, clients and business owners – gather together to listen to a few talks about illustration, UI, UX or the business of creativity and design.

The Cape Town Meetups have, as far as I am aware,  been organised by the good people at Isoflow. The Cape Town Dribbble Community were actually awarded the international Silver Bucket Award, which is given every year to the most active Dribbble Community globally. Pretty cool!

It’s a great opportunity for the community to rub shoulders and compare notes as well as learn something new (and have a drink and slice of pizza together). This is especially good if you work alone from a home office with only a few insects and a dog to talk to each day. This was the 7th one held in Cape Town, and the 4th I’ve been fortunate enough to attend.

On the 10th July 2017, I was actually fortunate enough to be “drafted” into the exclusive dribbble team as a “player” and I received my “Golden Ticket” so to speak. Shout out to Rob Luke from the USA, for “picking me for the team”.

So if you are ever in Cape Town at the time when the next meetup is held, join in and say hi to some of the most talented people from this part of the world and become part of a growing community. You never know, you might learn a thing or two by being surrounded by these amazing people.
